Something witty this way comes.

Nigritude Ultramarine

A SEO (Search Engine Optimization) contest I came across seems right up our resident optimizer Aesopian's alley. The winners will be the page which is ranked #1 for a Google search of nigritude ultramarine on the 7th of June and then the 7th of July.

Edit: Well I've started messing around with my nigritude ultramarine page, hopefully I'll be able to spend some time playing with it after finals.

Hey hey, cool stuff. This contest is actually being done by DarkBlue and SearchGuild.com, the latter being the forum I administrate, so I've know about this for a bit. You can find the SG thread on it here:

But cool stuff to see that it's getting attention. :)

Sadly, as a forum staff member, I cannot enter the contest, but best of luck to all.

I was wondering if that is were I knew the name SearchGuild from.

Watch this page show up in the top 10, because it just happens to match the criteria. :D

That's a distinct possibility. ;)

My nigritude ultramarine page is up but only really as a goof for the moment. I might actually try to do something with it after finals though. At least now I've got some linkage. :)

Haha, good to see!

You got some link text going on in your post. Just get your site bombed with that phrases as link text and you'll be on your way to a free iPod.

You realize that now this site has a Nigritude Ultramarine page.

Yeah Dylan should add the little contest entry just in case it takes off.

On a slightly related note (okay it's not that related but I want this thread to live) I just restyled vampirical.com a bit taking a page from the new boffin design and going with a larger content text size and switching how my post dates are displayed (though this is more in the style of the earlier dev style). Unfortunately, In doing this I've significantly cut down and a lot of space from my posts and may actually have to start posting...content in order to fill things out a bit.

P.S. nigritude ultramarine baby!

I don't think I have a very good chance. Vampirical is beating me already by exactly 100 results. He's at position 152 and I'm at position 252.

And yes, I'm getting hits to the site from people searching Google for "nigritude ultramarine", even at position 252. I checked.

w00t! Oddly enough google still isn't listing the actual page I created only my homepage with the post which links to it. You could probably do pretty well if you added a link to this thread in your template (to have if appear in the footer or sidebar). I've noticed a few top listings which are getting that kind of love from forum sites and are doing pretty well. And if you don't do it for your own you could always do it for mine }:)

I didn't read this post until now cause I figured it was another techie thread. Turn's out I was right. Boy did I waste my time. How 'bout them f**kin' Yankees?

How about you waste even less time and not reply to our tech treads.

Well this thread is now ranked 119, while my page is at 252. Fooey. 119 ain't to shabby, if you put up and image and setup a little linkage you might just win. Though one of the second or third results has something like 6 or 7 thousand links from different forums and such...bastards.

Update: My page has risen to 29th and this thread is now at 185.

Content of the page is one of few things which has propelled by own page as high as it is. Though I bet changing my /. signature to point to the page and then getting in a few nice high moderated comments early on in popular discussions has helped.
vampirical - May 20, 2004 @ 5:16 AM - Permanent Link
Heh, my page gets to 26th at one point and then bam google switches to old cache of the page and it's in the 300's. Any ideas why?
