First Post. Back to basics.

It’s been a long time since I wrote my own content on my own site. Too long.

I’m using Hugo to run my site. It’s a static site generator, which means my site lives as-is on the server without the need for any supporting technology. The “source” for my site is now just a lot of Markdown files. I love it.

My thoughts first veered in the direction of using a static site generator after reading the fantastic Tilde Club article. (Seriously, read the whole thing.) It made me realize how much I miss the raw fun of just making a web site. Not building frameworks, not chaining dependencies, not battling compatibility hydras. Just making a web site — typing out things you care about and having them show up on your own corner of the Internet.

So let’s see how this goes. :)
